Artist's description:

“Skating on Thin Ice” is a collage using Canson art paper pre-painted with red acrylic on one face of the paper then blue acrylic on the reverse. After cutting into non-parallel strips the pieces were folded at random so that red and blue painted surfaces appeared at random, all of which were then arranged and glued to another pre-painted sheet of Canson paper. The folded pieces were intentionally not fully glued flat, resulting in a slight 3-dimensional effect of the finished piece.

Again, one of a dedicated series loosely based on the works of Maréchal Vauban - Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban (1633-1707) - who is considered one the of the greatest military engineers of all time. In his life he was responsible for the fortification of over 160 places in France… but his major contribution to warfare was his methods of attack, which revolutionised siege warfare. However, the shapes and angles of his defensive walls surrounding many French towns and seaports have influenced the design of my more recent artworks.
