Artist's description:

The bright blue of ocean waters. A glint of silver. A fish leaps!

This work's inspired by a recent trip to the Florida Keys and Everglades that allowed for playing in the sun and surf in an escape from winter. Ah, to walk out and feel the ocean water between your toes! The tarpon, known as the silver king, is a fascinating and ancient fish that hangs around in South Florida waters. Tough as nails and a fighter, it's a beautiful sight gliding through clear waters.

All my work is inspired by nature and it's many variables - the colors, textures, interplay of elements. Fish especially, with their scales and patterns, provide countless ways to experiment with paint. It takes about a week to complete a work like this and interesting to see how it develops.

Then I'll take a break and encourage people to do what I like to do when not in the studio: go outside and play!

Materials used:

stretched canvas, acrylic gesso, Golden fluid acrylic paints, and acrylic satin varnish
