Artist's description:

The low Winter sun slants across the frozen surface of a small lochan in the middle of a wood, illuminating the twigs of the birches on the far bank so that they glow with halos of copper and the dead leaves of the grasses are turned to pale gold. Last Summer's bullrushes stand trapped in the ice. A few brave fronds of bracken push up through the snow but everything else slumbers in the silence, waiting for the return of Spring.

Crannoch Woods is a small wood a few miles from my home, a litle way outside the seaside village of Cullen. A path leads gently upwards through Birch and Beech to a clearing, where the loch nestles in a circle of trees. It's always a magical place, but even more so when it's transformed by the snow.

Painted with artist quality acrylics on deep sided canvas, with plain painted pale grey sides. Ready to hang.
