Artwork description:

Indian village women have to adhere to very strict code of conduct and attire. This is done to show modesty, tradition and respect. But I am sure there are practical reasons for this …. To protect themselves from the sun, to make sure the hairstyle doesn’t get spoiled and to make faces without getting caught . Don’t be fooled by this look , they are not shy nor timid … they are the backbone of their family and the strong individuals who will do anything to ensure that their family is healthy and safe.

In this painting, I have created a textured background with dill paper and matt gel. The background was done using liquid acrylic and the lady was sketched on top. I created colored textured dill paper using acrylic paint and bubble wrap. Not exactly easy to handle but sure creates interesting textures.

Materials used:

gesso, acrylic, dill paper
