The coast, and objects I find on the beach are a re-occuring theme in my artwork. Here I printed a grey (almost black) design against a background of delicate blues and purples. Real netting was used to leave a unique impression in the ink giving a feeling of fishing nets on the shore. This print is one of a series of 25, each different in colour and background textures.
Please note for ease of sending all original prints are sent without mount or frame (the mount in the photos is for photography purposes only). Your print will come carefully cellophane wrapped with a leaflet of helpful framing/hanging/care tips.
Wherever possible items will be dispatched same or next working day, depending on my art tutoring commitments.
You are getting an original piece by an established, professional artist and with a strong record of exhibiting in quality galleries and outlets.
This piece is not a reproduction, it is an original piece, hand-pulled on old fashioned iron presses at Gainsborough’s House Print Workshop in Sudbury, Suffolk. Starting with a block of lino or similar, a background is printed using hand mixed ink and sometimes real leaves, flowers or a variety of textured papers and fabrics to leave unique impressions in the ink. The lino block is then carved and printed either in one layer, or in stages, at each stage more block is carved away and new colours are applied, lining them up by eye with the layers below. Each layer takes several days to dry. This type of printing is called 'reduction lino printing', and by the end of the process the block has been destroyed. Technically the print would be known as a 'monoprint' as each impression is unique and differs from the one before. Although every single print is different in colour and detail, I sometimes make a series using the same block. There will always be less than 25 in a series. They are not all listed online so if you are interested in other colours check my shop, and if you don’t see what you want do email me and see what I have.
