Artist's description:

I painted this view of the cranes at the shipyards in Wallsend over 2 sittings. It was interestig to note that the cranes had physically moved positions on the second day and then resumed their original positions by the afternoon.

I deliberatley framed the composition so that the diagonal lines converged, making the river the middle ground, whilst the red hut in the foreground formed an interesting focal point apart from the main subject of the cranes.

Indusrties like shipbuilding and mining were major contributors to the development of the North East and it is heartening to hear that Swan Hunters will return to Tyneside within the marine industry as an offshore subsea company.
