Original artwork description:

The Shape of Perfume series

Obscure, obscured, memories, intentions indiscernible, floating beyond reach, ephemeral. The paintings in this series are many layered, painted over years, with older drawings and paintings below the surface, some of which are visible, others not.

Accessing the deep and subconscious dreams and desires that perfume and scent awakens.

Acrylic paint, earth pigments. The paints are made from natural ochre pigments.

Inspired by a visit to the ancient frescoes on the wall of the Chapter House at Westminster Abbey, of which only small remnants are visible, Also by the history of perfume, its links with medicine and science, theology and culture and Marcel Proust's 'À la recherche du temps perdu'

The painting is on stretched paper treated with layers of varnish to give a surface sheen and protect the paint.
