Artwork description:

Seven Sisters in Greco-Roman mythology (The Pleiad) were seven daughters of Atlas and Pleione. In Astromancy they are a cluster of stars in the night shy. In England they refer to a series of chalk cliffs by the English Channel. They are often used to represent a feministic point of view. They have been painted throughout art history by many great painters.
I didn't want to define any particular point of view but allow the viewer to discover their own meaning.
“It can be said that Shelton has invented a new manner of capturing the essence of the human figure that, in hindsight, seems to share ideology with some elements of Cubism and Surrealism, but to be more precise British Surrealism. The power and strength in the compositions is reminiscent of Masterpieces by Francis Bacon but juxtaposed with the fluid and segmented forms seen in George Braque’s work. The result is a strangely delicate while intrinsically potent line of work that forces the viewer to think in an attempt to understand the relationship between the forms and contours that come together in perfect harmony on canvas.” Timothy Warrington, International Confederation of Art Critics, 2017.
