Artist's description:

This piece was inspired by a habit that I have. Whenever I am bored and dazing off while sketching, I find myself drawing a heartbeat pattern. However, the pattern has a purpose. To me, it is mimicking the volume of the person speaking. So, the peaks and valleys are actually how loud I think the person is speaking and it depends on what the word is. That explains the composition. As far as the colors I wanted to play cool vs warm and lights vs darks. The background is a red to yellow gradient that has other layers on top of it. I also added streaks of silver for a pop of a metallic color. After the acrylic had dried, I overlayed sketches and scribbles of oil pastels for interest and to have the viewer's eyes wander around the painting.

Materials used:

acrylic paint, oil pastels
