I have been mainly working on landscapes and seascapes recently, in an abstract way. When working on larger pieces I paint studies alongside to play with colour and texture, through these I gain a greater understanding of how I want the artwork to evolve. Most of these studies stay in my studio but sometimes I take them and work them into artworks in their own right. This study is one such painting, I was experimenting with contrasting colours (those that sit opposite each other on the colour wheel) and the hues and mixes that can be derived from them. As I laid down these colours onto my paper a painting evolved, I felt that despite the unusual colours there was a calm energy that reminded me of the sea . I added the collaged pieces to tell this story along with some additional texture.
I have mounted the painting in an off white textured mount and framed it in a black stained contemporay wooden frame.
