Artist's description:

A picture of the long beach at El Palmar in south west Spain, worked firstly in acrylic, then in oil paint, from an image taken in 2010. The thing about the beach here is that, being so shallow, the waves form all sorts of colours against the underlying sand at different depths as they arrive, and then as they recede when the sand changes from reflecting the sky to its own colour as it drains. Sometimes this is all you need to look at, but as ever at the coast, your eye is drawn to the distance where the surf concentrates in a patch in which people gather.

Materials used:

Acrylic and oil paint
