Scrubbers is mixed print media piece depicting the tedium of women's work. It includes images of women scrubbing and repetitive text, relating to the repetition of menial work. The title is a double entendre. It suggests a perception that women who perform menial work are somehow immoral. The inspiration for the peice came from Degas' Laundress series, where the washing women, who were considered to be little better than prostitutes became transformed through the painting, the pure white sheets hanging at their backs like angelic wings.
