Artist's description:

The vivid reds of this painting suggest a turbulent narrative, and yet the women find themselves at the moment of a quiet reverie over the past day. Their elegant clothes reveal that they are coming home from a party, but now they are at ease with being silent with each other and confortable with their friendship.

Not strictly portraits in a traditional sense, the paintings’ fictional models are inspired by the people I meet, who caught my attention through their personal style, body language and elegance. The women are seemingly lost of though and oblivious to being observed - there is an air of untroubled waiting about them that gives them a sense of poise, whether it is playful, tranquil or thoughtful.

Starting with self-stretched natural canvas I even out the surface with several layers of primer, then use a variety of brushes and palette knives to apply oil paint to achieve a bold, textured effect.

Materials used:

heavy-duty natural canvas, triple-primed, oil paints
