This beautiful organic small framed beach painting was inspired by the coast. I love the sea and grew up in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, UK. Horizons were very prominent in my memory of growing up by the sea and their sense of mystery has always fascinated me. Sandsend is a very familiar beach to me and I visited regularly as a child.
This expressive oil painting was created plein air on Sandsend beach in the Spring of 2014. The day was very cold, fresh and clear. The palette I chose captures the fresh sea air and that transformation of winter into Spring.
'Sandsend No1' is part of the 'Sandsend series' I started in Spring 2014 which I am still working on.
Framed locally by hand with the finest quality wooden frame. I use a greener alternative to traditional turpentine and white spirit. The painting is varnished with a high quality gloss oil paint varnish that will help protect the painting from dust, grease and UV damage.
