This is a view of the church of San Gennaro from the road through the village of Praiano, on the Amalfi Coast. It's perched on the side of the cliff with its mosaic tiled blue and yellow dome almost on a level with the road. The lemon trees in the foreground are a bit of artistic licence: there are lemon trees on the cliff but not in this precise location in relation to the church. Otherwise, this painting is faithful to the view in my photograph, with the coast road running round the far cliff, out of Positano which is hidden behind the spur of the mountain between the two towns. The sea is streaked with little boats and there's a man in his field down the slope outside the church, going about his agricultural business. The Amalfi Coast is a magical landscape and I will go back and paint more in the future.
