"Sailing the Blue II" is an abstracted aerial seascape that may impress you as a lone sailboat in a turquoise ocean. It may be just off the shoreline of a rocky coast, or a coral reef until you take a look at it's companion, which belong just to the right of it - Sailing the Blue. A moon, a peninsula, marine life...put the two paintings together and you might be looking at a large Viking style ship.
Many layers of thinly laid acrylic paint over collaged papers or textured acrylic mediums result in a depth of surface and luminous quality. When the painting part is mostly finished I use materials such as foil, cut paper, mat board corrugated cardboard, textured paint scraps and other miscellaneous altered objects or materials for additional descriptive textural elements. Oil pastel highlights are added at the end and the process is finished with a clear acrylic varnish for surface protection
