Artist's description:

Sailboat Promenade takes place just south of Kenora, Ontario, Canada, at the very top of Lake of the Woods. The building in the mid-ground is The Royal Yacht Club (a visit from Prince Arthur in 1914 brought it up to “royal” standards!). I did the painting from some photos I had taken during Kenora’s Harborfest celebration where hundreds of sailboats sail in a giant regatta. My mom and I had driven to town (by boat) to pick up my dad at the marina, and we had to wait literally 20 minutes for all the sailboats to go by to get through the main navigation channel. In the editing stage I decided to extend the water further into the foreground, not realizing it would change the whole view point of the painting. That change made it seem like the viewer now is actually swimming (or kayaking) in the channel instead of riding up in a boat. It was an unexpected, dramatic shift, and probably the reason why I've had several people tell me looking at it makes them seasick!
