Artwork description:

This is a large (approx A3 image size) reduction linocut showing the Royal Albert Hall at night, just before the performance starts. Perhaps during the Proms?

This is very small variable edition of 10.

The print is made by cutting a block of lino, then inking the colour for all the prints in the edition, then cutting again for the next colour. The ink is transferred to the paper by rubbing the back with a wooden spoon - which takes a while for a large print like this! At the end of the process no more prints can be made as the block has been entirely cut to bits.

The image shows the actual print for sale which is number 4 in the edition. All prints are numbered, titled and signed by me on the front.

Image size is 38cm wide by 28cm high, and will be sent to you with a mount and backing board - so all you need to do is frame it! The mount brings the artwork to a total size of 50cm by 40cm approx., which is a standard frame size and easily available.

Please note international orders will be posted without a mount and rolled in a tube with acid-free tissue.

I used to work as a steward at the Albert Hall and have fond memories of the many wonderful shows and concerts I got to see whilst working there - including a season of the Bolshoi Ballet in residence. The building has lots of doors, and there are always some latecomers. Inevitably they need to get to the hardest to reach seats, and inevitably it's a production that is being filmed!

I recall noticing the stars over Kensington when leaving the Hall after work, so I added some to this image.

The print is made using oil-based inks and printed on acid-free paper.

Materials used:

oil-based printing inks, colour, lino
