I painted this road standing between the crash barriers of a central reservation, exposed to the tailwinds of passing trucks. Hockney’s road-crossed landscapes prompted me to paint this view.
The enticing glimpse of the peak El Turbon on the horizon hints at greater vistas.
I’ve previously played with scale to question the relationship of people with the land. Here, the road dominates, emphasizing a strong human impact.
