Artist's description:

'Retrograde' became something different to what i set out to create. My original intention here was to fill the image with a limited colour palette but vast variety of wood grains. I wanted no white at all to be visible. I quickly realised the negative space was just as important as the colours and patterns and was needed for balance. I progressed a lot further than this, the final image, to find that out. In working backwards, removing blocks of colour and grain filled shapes, revealing more and more white background as i went, i arrived at this very point. The perfect harmonious composition.
When it comes to inspiration i am constantly living in the past. I'm such a retro girl at heart and something that really revs my engine is graphic design and home decor of the 50's, 60's and 70's, which is where this colour palette evolved from. Stained wood, is a guilty pleasure i associate with those eras, cladding walls of stylish homes of the 1960's and 70's. To me, it is warm and nostalgic. I love how the retro feel and clean modern shapes compliment eachother, like opposites attracting.
I arrived at the title 'Retrograde' because the stars of the show, the 3 wood grain-filled circles, reminded me of orbiting planets. There's even an eclipse happening at the bottom. Retrograde by definition means: "directed or moving backwards", how very fitting for saying how this final image came to be.

NB. Each print will be hand signed and numbered.
