Artist's description:

Here's a beautiful redwing (Turdus iliacus) which is a kind of very large thrush. They come to the UK in vast numbers every winter to escape the harsh conditions in Scandinavia where they breed in the summer. This is one I saw near my home feasting on hawthorn berries. In really cold weather they often come into towns and villages to eat the berries on ornamental bushes in parks and gardens.
