Sufi mystics have sung in praise of understanding the divine through our existence on this earth. They have shown us the path to love and selflessness. They have always inspired us to go beyond conceit and to liberate the self from ego and understand that we are nothing more than puppets. 'Redemption' is about forgiving ourselves and finding peace within. No matter how much power or wealth we acquire, we are still poor if our hearts are loveless and unkind and our souls are deprived from spiritual bliss. This understanding of the self devoid of ego has always seemed a very difficult aspiration to me, but remains a constant inspiration. I have used watercolor wash on handmade paper first and then drew in the details with a pen using waterproof ink.
