Artist's description:

"Rain #2", Mixed media on paper, 9x12 inches, 2011. Signed on the front and the back with title and date.

My first serious artworks were portraits. I started making drawings of myself then of other family members and friend of my generation. For me; drawing women made more sense because the process also let me explore myself as a woman. I used simple photos taken by myself.

I have many influences; like Picasso's blue and rose period, Giacometti's oils and Marlene Dumas's 80's oils. It is also worth mentioning Holbein, El Greco and Frida.

I generally start working with ink and watercolors. Then I start building layers of pastels and colored pencils. If something happens on the way, I do cutouts and continue with collages. I always end up with vibrant but settled colors.

Materials used:

Ink, watercolor, soft pastel, charcoal, paper.
