In Norse mythology, Ragnarok is the foretold doom of the gods; the final battle between the gods and the frost giants. During the course of Ragnarok almost all of the gods and major mythological figures and predestined to die (with the main exception of two mortals that take refuge under Yggdrasil - the World Tree), and the world is made anew. It's a unique take on the apocalypse that stands far apart from other mythologies/religions, and that's really what caught my interest.
It was both incredibly enjoyable and very challenging to break away from my character focused pieces and work on scenery and landscapes. I wanted this piece to be epic and foreboding, and that really informed my colour choices and value scheme, and of course the composition of the piece.
