This sculpture was just meant to be as all three pieces were found on the beach on the same day. I picked up the body of the turtle and liked the shape but could not make sense of it until I picked up what would become its shell (about one feet away). Then I found the bottom piece only a couple feet on my way back that I later combined with a recycled beach metal base. Et voila!
RACING TURTLE seem to strech her neck so to go faster despite the weight on her back. She looks so persevering in getting forward no matter what.
She is also an important totem in Native Spirituality.
Symbol of the world, of the Earth
Ability to stay grounded, even in moments of disturbances and chaos
Slowing down, pacing yourself
Emotional strength and understanding
Racing Turtle is currently on demo in a Gallery in Quebec so I do not have more pictures at hand for now but can provide a short film of the piece upon request.
