Artwork description:

These recent sculptural works have grown out of my desire to find a more plastic and expressive way to build objects that reflect natural and organic, specifically figurative, forms. In previous painted wood-based constructions, I utilized the ideas of structure, fracture and façade, in describing destruction and renewal in veiled autobiographical references; personal narratives, and memories of time and place.

The small relief sculptures presented here utilize form, texture and colour as both finished works in themselves, and studies for what I plan to be larger and more complex wall constructions.

Cut, torn, folded, and assembled canvas, cardboard and paper constructions have provided me with a material which has allowed a new depth and complexity of visual expression.

Materials used:

Acrylic paint on canvas construction
