Artist's description:

This silt exposure is part of an abandoned quarry near my campsite along Death Valley Road east of Big Pine, California. I was fascinated by the subtle color temperature change in the shadowed face. The snow-capped peaks of the eastern Sierra Mountain range tower over volcanic ridges in the background that flank the western edge of the Owens Valley. This painting is a unique, plein air work of art painted outdoors on location near my camp site.

Materials used:

Oil paint on gessoed masonite
