This piece measures 12" x 48", which makes it difficult to find the right composition that works for such a slender sliver. I began with mounting panel slivers and "puzzle pieces onto another surface and covered that with wall compound and Oil Primer. All of this is done with a piece of wood that I cut and shape, using it like a large palette knife or trowel. Then I start with the Oil paint, more about contrast with touches of color until I begin to understand what I want to do. I started to see the warmth of the upper register complementing the ever encroaching icy coolness of the lower register and so it began. I finished it off with some hard edges and light coming off the those edges to move the forms along. This can be horizontal as well, if you wish. It is box framed with an ash stain, ready to hang!
