My wire drawing of a Pug Portrait. Why a Pug? Well, I couldn't resist its distinctive comical face, with deep wrinkles around big, dark eyes and a flat round face which can't help but make you smile. It is believed that the Pug's name comes from the Latin word for "fist" because his face resembles a human fist. Pugs are clowns at heart, but they carry themselves with dignity.
He was created by twisting, weaving, cutting, bending, curling and straightening wire with pliers. The sculpture creates negative shapes between the wire which hold as much importance as the wire itself, encouraging the viewer to recognise this space as part of the sculpture.
It is lightweight and easily hung on the wall.
Aluminium wire, copper wire
