A study of one of the three 'Harold Stones' at Trellech in Gwent, Wales. I visited the site twice within the space of a week - the atmosphere was radically different on each occasion. This work is from my first visit in late August 2016, at the end of a day of close and oppressive heat. The power of the stones was tangible, almost audible.
The dowser John Williams of Abergavenny described his experience here on a similar day in 1970: "touching it with my hand, a spiral-like force built up through my whole body and threw me back from the stone". The juxtaposition of the stones, standing for millenia with latent energy in their rough pasture, and the marching line of modern power lines was too good an opportunity to pass up...
