This work has been inspired by a psychological theory, 'The theory of positive disintegration (TPD) by Kazimierz Dąbrowski. This is a theory of personality development that, unlike mainstream psychology, views psychological tension and anxiety as necessary for growth. These "disintegrative" processes are therefore seen as "positive", whereas people who fail to go through positive disintegration may remain for their entire lives in a state of "primary integration", lacking true individuality.
When I first read this theory I was staggered to see how this comes back in my work. This piece is made in a fase of disintegration, characterized by choosing with which newly experienced morals I want to be identified - who do I want to be?
