Artist's description:

I was recently humbled when I met two French heroes from WWII who live near me.
They were arrested as ‘terrorists’ by the Nazis during the Occupation and sent to Belsen and Dachau where they witnessed the most appauling atrocities ever committed. But they survived and returned to France after the war. They were both awarded the Legion d’honneur which I’ve included with each portrait. They are in their eighties and nineties now, but both in good health. After speaking to them I was so impressed that I took their pictures and painted their portraits from the photographs. The paintings are now in a local Resisatnce museum. They are therefore not for sale, but are included here to show what can be done from a photograph.
