Artist's description:

Painting: Acrylic, Gesso, Pencil, Paint and Color on Canvas.

For this portrait I got inspired by a picture from a book I browsed trough in the National Librairy in NYC some years ago. This book was full of pictures of Irish farmers and families migrating to the United States, about 100 years ago. The picture showed a poor Irish girl arriving at Coney Island. Curious, full of life, maybe scared of and thrilled about what is about to happen in her new world. Big eyes observed the impressive skyline of NYC in its beauty and its majesty. All she really saw was a great, new future. This immage came back to me after Donald Trump got elected for President. 'What if he would have been president in those days, during the great migration?' So many dreams would have been stolen then. That's why I wanted to catch this girl's beauty, look and emotions on canvas.

This work is made by acrylic, gesso, combined with water and a combination of spalters as well as fine brushes.

Materials used:

Acrylic, pencil and Gesso on linen
