Artist's description:

(Version Française plus bas )
Nobrega’s quiet and contemplative oil painting stars colorful and emotionally engaging characters. The figures express the light pleasure reminding us, the viewers, of some of Matisse's works.
The pointillist background inspired by Van Gogh or Seurat’s technique, the blending and the contrasting of Fauve colors in this full scale artwork shows Nobrega's mastery of the expressive language of color.

Nobrega uses the spatial ambiguity to explore one of the key issues in modern painting: the conflict between the illusion of depth and the acknowledgment of the flatness of the canvas.
The artist reverses these figure ground relationship. He makes the figure out of the ground (the canvas) and makes the ground out of the figure (paint on top). When seen in person, the recognition of this does finally destroy the illusion… And Nobrega’s art faboulously leaves us enchanted and moved…
