The first of a new series of 'redemption' paintings inspired by the lyrics of musician Julia Gray in which she references Greek Mythology, literature and relationships. The series will focus on expression though bodily movement and the hands.
The redemption series is about the different ways in which we can be tied to things and how we can be redeemed/find freedom or repossession of ourselves, whether being tied as part of enslavement or being willingly tied to something, like another person in marriage. When tied, does this allow us to be vulnerable in the security of being tied to something or vulnerable through being scared? If willingly tied, as much as this can be happy/enriching/exciting, we can also willingly tie ourselves to unhealthy things/relationships to ourselves and others even though we want to be set free, to let go, to give up. Each painting in the series allows the viewer to decide on the type of ties or not and to hang in ambiguity instead, as many ties themselves sometimes are.
