Artist's description:

I got married last year and spent my honeymoon in France. We sailed down the Canal du Midi with its iconic plane trees providing much sought after shade along its banks. The plane trees are dying from a disease transferred from wooden american amunition boxes that were transported along the canal during the last war. There is a huge replanting scheme by the French waterways , but the disease remains in the soil, so they will in time sadly lose all the plane trees.

Multiple layers of watercolour pencil (41) were applied to both sides of the fabric, then areas blended with a fine brush and water. I then embellished the piece with free motion machine embroidery, layering the thread colours in the same way as the pencil process.
