This is the second in the peony series I am working on. Peonies are very special to me because they are my father's favorite flower. To me, they represent spring or early summer. I just love painting peonies because they are beautiful globes of color and if you are a lover of peonies you also know what I mean when I say they have an unmistakable perfume.
This peony painting is more subdued in color and is more earthy than the others in the series so far. The vase is an antiqued bronze color and the peonies are darker, as if they were displayed in a room with low light. I recommend that this painting be framed because it is painted on a stretched canvas with a narrow profile. You can hang it directly on the wall as I did paint the sides with a complimentary color, but this painting would look lovely with a rich wood frame.
