Original artwork description:

This painting was inspired by an early morning hike up the Catoctin mountain (Appalachian Trail, Appalachian Mountains of Western Maryland, USA. The sun was just breaking through the forest canopy and creating glowing highlights on these wild orchids that bloom in late spring, often in wild forest locations. These orchids also known as Moccasin flowers are difficult to propogate and are protected in many northern states. It is a rare orchid as it is ground based versus most of the ones I encounter locally are epiphytes, aboreal tree plants of subtropical Florida.
I first found these in the late 1970's and took some resource images intending to complete a painting of them. It has taken me over 45 years to get to the this painting and I consider it on of my best botanical works.
This original oil painting comes in a wood floating frame which wil increase overall size and weight for shipping.

Materials used:

Oil painting on oil grounds on Aluminum Composite Board (ACM panel)
