Piata Mare in Sibiu (German Großer Ring) is the central square of the city, existing in 1366, with the completion of the third fortification belt of the city. Major Circulus vulgariter Kornmargt ("big ring in cereals fair people") is certified as such in a document from 1408, which is remembered Mathias document Baldi. He bought and repaired in its place a stone house from Pipo Timis. In another document of 1411 is attested selling a house stone by Mathias Tromenauer Nicolaus Jenkowicz for $ 1,000 guilders in one place.
It is the largest public square in the old town and witnessed the economic activities of traders in Sibiu. In it citizens held meetings, fairs and even executions.
