Artist's description:

For me, inspiration comes from many places -- the natural world, archaeology, history, science, even cartoons. I love the idea of telling a story in one image.

“Petro-Who (PW) was born from my love of ancient cultures. I love thinking about the ancient world and bringing that into our modern spaces. This piece is based on actual petroglyphs from the Columbia River in Washington state. The meaning of many petroglyphs is elusive, however the owl is linked with wisdom and death. In particular, the Great Horned Owl carried the souls of the dead to the underworld.

This piece is finished on the sides so it can be hung unframed.

Materials used:

plaster, glaze, powder pigments

"Petro-Who" bas relief (2014)
