I saw these lovely roses displayed in a florist's window and was immediately drawn to their gorgeous blooms. They were so perfect, the petals so soft and velvety, the heads supported by strong stems, with their dark green leaves a perfect foil for the lush tones of the roses. The colour of the blooms ranged from deep magenta to a soft shell pink in their centres.
I knew I had to paint them, I laid them on my studio table with a piece of matching satin ribbon and proceeded to paint their portraits. It was a labour of love to capture their varied tones and colours and to convey their velvety texture.
For the background I chose a very soft duck egg blue and I have matched the frame to complement this.
These roses will live on forever in my oil painting, never fading, never dying.
