Artist's description:

This painting has been taken back into the studio, because I wanted to add more work on the shadows. The slate waste heaps now seem to have a real weight.

Penrhyn Quarry dominates the skyline across our valley. The social history of the generations of quarry-men has formed the local community. I am an incomer, though I have lived here for 25 years. My attempt to paint the quarry in oils is long overdue.

The iconic shapes of the mountain are a worthy test of my abilities, and I enjoyed the painting process.
