Artist's description:

This small series of bird paintings was inspired by the historical use of symbolic animals in church ornamentation. In the mediaeval Europe the peacock's skin was believed to be impermeable so it came to represent eternal life. The use of gold and the flattening of the subject is a nod to the traditional practice of ikon painting.

Note: The painting is circular. The surrounding white is a card mount with beveled edge.

Materials used:

oil paint, gold leaf

Peacock (2012)
