Artist's description:

I painted two earlier works called Clouded Vision in which the religious folk story of the patron saint of Cuba, Santa Caridad, or Saint of Charity, is portrayed. Santa Caridad is depicted as a bright guiding light that leads three lost fishermen caught in a maelstrom at sea toward safety. It is my interpretation of the possibility of visions appearing at a disparaging time in life when someone is looking for the possibility for divine intervention.

I approached Illumination to tell the same story, with a more decorative intent, using three simple colors. The black background represents the abyss of loss and confusion; the white lacy, web-like clouds are the developing tangled and foggy thoughts; and the abstract waves, lit with gold, are an invitation to follow and allow a rising compass to guide us into a safer, more enlightened realm.

Materials used:

Plaster, gold leaf, acrylic paint
