Artist's description:

The heart of the Condesa neighborhood of Mexico City is lush, art deco Parque Mexico. It is a perfect place to while away the time watching dog trainers and couples holding hands and to make some sketches before starting a day of sight seeing.

I was drawn to paint the statue, Fuente de los Cántaros (Fountain of the jugs) by José María Fernández Urbina by its graceful but weathered subject. She looked to be the heroine of a folk legend and all the patches of discolored cement and peeling paint seemed to mark the long stretch of time she has stoically watched over the park.

I'm proud to say this painting recently won an honorable mention in the nationally juried show "Arizona Aqueous" hosted by the Tubac Art Center in Tubac, Arizona.
