Paradise is one of my largest paintings in recent times. It was painted with joy and has inspired more pieces with "wings" (central image flanked by two).
It is so much fun to paint large again. As a young artist in New York, most of my work was very large..diptyches and triptches 6 ft high and 10 ft across....and it makes me very happy to be able to find a way in my modest studio now, to make a 6 ft/183 cm piece happen. I love the way the larger scale allows the colors and their story to breathe and there is something in particular about the 6 ft dimension in paintings that appeals to me. And, building paintings from separate panels also fits well with my process. I was thinking each canvas is a window. I have always loved stained glass windows and the way, by necessity, the colors are broken into separate pieces that then build into a rich composite with light shining through the colors.
Paradise is painted on three gallery-wrapped canvases with the painting continued on the sides. The central canvas is 36"/91 cm square, flanked by two canvases each 18" x 36"/46 x 91 cm.
Paradise will ship in two heavy-weight boxes. A signature will be required at delivery so the paintings can be fully insured.
