I was struck by this gentleman, sitting in the summer sun and it looked like he was reading.
On closer inspection, he did not have a book but a plane piece of paper, the wrinkles of which he was flatting and smoothing out with his fingers. I suddenly had the devilish thought that he was making paper planes and not reading as I had initially thought.
I decided to paint this lovely idea of an old gentleman who we think is reading some letter or notice or bill only to find he is making paper planes to fly up to the summer sky, turning the notion of age, and being "grown up" on it's head.
We can all keep young by playing...and making paper planes
