Space/Ether is the most delicate of all the elements and acts as the container of the other four elements. Without space the other four elements will not have their existence. It sustains all the other elements. It has no specific form and hence we do experience its presence as immediately as the other four elements. It manifests in the space between objects in the room or any given space. We also become aware of the spaces within your body, like lungs which fill up with the air we breathe or the stomach which feels full after a good meal. Our mind may become familiar to the space between our thoughts, with practiced concentration. Ether is the space out of which our thoughts crop up. With the barrage of manufactured needs, controlled thought process and confusing communication we are losing touch with ourselves. We spend our lives caged up in petty ambitions and greed, which is constantly being fed by the ‘civilized’ society we have created. We have forgotten to connect with nature or to the emotions within us. We are polluting our minds with willful ignorance and hatred towards each other.
This series has been inspired by the 5 elements of life which form everything inside and around us and how greed and progress is destroying the balance between these elements and hence the balance between survival and extinction, life and death.
This artwork is a part of a group of 5 drawings on the theme of the 5 elements.
