This is the 3rd painting inspired by a Polaroid photograph I took during a trip to the Isle of Man in 2007.
The Polaroid for this painting was taken whilst I was in a car (I wasn't the one driving I hasten to add!), and looking at the spectacular views; the beautiful heavy clouds hanging over a lower drop of crisp white sky, all above that mysterious ocean that we still know so little about.
It can feel like you are looking at the edge of the world when you look out into the distant seas, yet we know there is a vast world beyond that view. At the time I took the photograph that inspired this painting, this idea felt synonymous with my father's soon to be departure from this world. It's fascinating, sad and wistful but also hopeful.
