Artist's description:

This pastel piece was something I had been wanting to capture for a long time.

Here in the Buckinghamshire countryside we are fortunate to have an abundance of the re introduced Red Kites. They really are beautiful powerful birds. We tend to only see them from underneath but they really do have the most beautiful backs and their feathers really are bursting with colour.

I really wanted to showcase this and then I came accross a photo by the very talented Russ Bridges who had managed to snap one of these birds in just the right position for me to be able to study the feathers and how they sit accross their backs.

I created this portrait from that photograph with permission (For which I am very grateful to Russ) and some imagination.

It took many painstaking hours of layering all sorts of colours carefully and methodically to final produce the artwork I wanted. Hopefully this piece helps people to see the Red Kite from a different perspective.

This piece is professionally framed in a bespoke wodden frame, black core mount and anti-reflective conservation level glass. The piece is also available unframed.
